A Sephardic family, newly immigrated to 1947 pre-independence Israel, attempts to make its way through an often dangerous and turbulent world. Memorably covering myriad issues of the day — from the realities of Jewish resistance against British rule to Arab violence directed against Jews to the conservative sexual mores that often trap women in the community —The House on Chelouche Street is deservedly an Israeli classic, one that nearly forty years later still holds up.
Starring Gila Almagor and Michal Bat Adam.
Guest Speaker: Critic Shlomo Schwartzberg
