Theatrical Events

The theatre has raked, bleacher-style seating for 288 patrons. The front section of 54 seats can be removed to create an orchestra pit or additional performance space. Cabaret seating for approximately 120 patrons is also an option in this versatile space.

Our proscenium arched stage is approximately 30ft. wide by 28ft. deep with wing space stage left and a cross over at the rear of the stage. With a versatile lighting plot and fully equipped sound system, the Al Green Theatre is an ideal space for your next theatrical production.

Included in all theatrical rentals is the use of our beautiful, air conditioned, 45ft. x 19ft. greenroom/dance studio, with sprung hardwood floors, props and wardrobe storage, a mini fridge and microwave, and internet access. There are also two dressing rooms which accommodate approximately 6-8 people each and come fully equipped with wardrobe racks and make-up mirrors.

We have hosted both professional and semi professional theatre in the past including Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company, Te-Amim Music Theatre, Tempest Theatre, Toronto Youth Theatre, and No Strings Theatre to name a few. We have also served as a Bring Your Own Venue for the Toronto Fringe Festival for 3 years running.

Film Screening/Film Festivals

With a raked, bleacher-style seating system that accommodate 288 patrons this venue is an ideal location for film screenings and film festivals. We offer 35mm and video projection capabilities with a Dolby sound system, including surround sound for 35mm films. Our professional, perforated screen is located at the rear of the stage and can range in size from 16’-6” x 12’-0” to 28’-0” x 13’-0”.

We are the home of the Toronto Jewish Film Society which holds monthly film screenings throughout the year and we have hosted a number of film festivals over the years including the Toronto International Film Festival, Toronto Jewish Film Festival, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival, imagineNATIVE Media + Arts Festival and the Canadian Sport Film Festival. Our downtown location, adjacent to Spadina subway, makes the venue ideal for festival-going crowds.

Our rear-stage screen location also makes it .possible to incorporate live performance or presentation elements into your screening events. This is a unique feature not available at all screening venues.

Concerts & Music Events

With the purchase of our brand new Yamaha C3 Grand Piano, and some additional sound equipment, we are better equipped than ever to host your next musical concert. With a stage size of approximately 30ft. wide by 28ft. deep we have successfully hosted a number of jazz and classical concerts, concert bands, chamber music, and community choirs.

Located in the heart of the city this new venue is great for your next musical event. The seating options are flexible – choose between theatre style seating, standing room, or cabaret style seating. Sight lines are excellent and the acoustic is warm and intimate for all genres of music. This is an ideal venue as well for those looking to move beyond the bar scene to an intimate concert format. No matter what your preference the Al Green Theatre is perfect for your concert needs.

Dance Events

This 288 seat venue has been home to a number of dance styles including modern, flamenco, gumboot, hip-hop and more. With a sprung floor and the choice of black or white vinyl dance floor to lie on top, the Al Green Theatre has you covered for your next dance performance. Whether a children’s dance recital or a fully staged production, our state of the art lighting and sound equipment will provide everything you need in-house.

Included in dance rentals is the use of our 850 square foot dance studio for warm-up and green room as well as two group dressing rooms with make-up mirrors and lighting.

Social Events

Let the Al Green Theatre host your next social event. Whether it be a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Anniversary Party or Class Reunion we provide a great, new space with friendly, helpful staff at a convenient downtown location.

We can accommodate a maximum of 120 with banquet style seating or standing room for approximately 200. No matter what the set-up there is still access to our stage and projection equipment so if you want to add a performance element or film to your next social event this is the place for you.

Catering is not available in house, but our friendly and knowledgeable staff can suggest the right caterer for you and help guide you through the planning of your event.

Lectures/Literary Events

Whether you are looking to hold a book launch, seminar, reading series, or all-candidates debate, this is the venue for you. Our 288 seat theatre is fully equipped with large projection screen, digital projector and PowerPoint capabilities.

We can set the stage with beautifully dressed tables for a formal panel or a more relaxed setting with lounge chairs, a coffee table and a warmly lit stage. Whatever your needs, let our friendly staff help you plan your next literary event or lecture.

Rehearsals

Looking for a venue for your next rehearsal? Consider our 850 square foot dance studio. With beautiful hardwood sprung floors, mirrors along one side of the room, and locking storage cabinets, this air-conditioned space is ideal for rehearsals and workshops.
